This episode features Thalib Razi,  a 23 year old singer-songwriter living in Falls Church, VA. He states, “Though I’m an engineering consultant by day, I have a passion for creating meaningful music with world influences. I was inspired to write this song after thinking about how the first part of the Shahada, La ilaha illallah, does not require the use of one’s lips (only the tongue and the roof of the mouth). The same is true of “hallelujah” in the Christian tradition, which points to our common Abrahamic root. It struck me as a metaphor for how the Shahada is more than mere words on the lips, but rather a gasp of awe in the face of the Divine. The music was inspired by American folk music and also by the West African guitar styles of Ali Farka Toure and Habib Koite.”
