Ramadan comes but once a year and for some of us, unfortunately, it’s a month that some observers dread due to the difficulty of fasting and the disruption to our comfortable routines. For most though, it is a month that is greatly looked forward to because of the enormous amount of blessings within it.
Ramadan is an opportunity to recharge our spiritual batteries, to self-reflect and prioritize what matters most to us and, most importantly, attain the mercy and forgiveness of Allah for our shortcomings and improve our connections with the Almighty.
The month is so beloved by the most sincere devotees of the faith that in the time of the Prophet (PBUH), the Sahaba would prepare for Ramadan months in advance and pray heavily for Allah to help them to reach another Ramadan so they can partake in its blessedness.
In “Ramadan” by Maher Zain, this profound love for the month is captured through song and sums up the feeling that it can bring to a believer who wants to attain the blessings the month brings.

And fly me to the sky,
I feel so alive,
It’s like my soul thrives in your light,
But how I wish you’d be,
Here with me all year around,”

Final Verdict
We love when Ramadan arrives (the rituals, the festivities, the brotherhood/sisterhood, the blessing and rewards, the generosity, the spiritual connection overdrive) and we hate to see it go away. Ramadan seems to move so quickly that before long it will be over and we will all be longing for it to return once again and Maher Zain’s “Ramadan” captures that bittersweet feeling greatly.
There are a lot of “Ramadan” themed nasheeds out there, and Maher Zain’s rendition of a song celebrating the month is a soul-stirring balad that is sure to move you to want to listen to it again and again.
