Eid Morning Song – Native Deen (Video Review)
When the blessed day of Eid arrives, it is a joyous occasion for the enire ummah (Muslim community). Whether it is completing the holy pilgrimage to Mecca for Hajj or wrapping up 30 days of fasting, reading the Qur’an and devotion during the month of Ramadan, when you have reached the finish line with the hopes that your sacrifice results in Allah’s mercy and reward, you can’t help but be in a festive mood.
Part of the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) when Eid had arrived was to clean up, put on his best clothes, and then walk towards the location of the Eid prayer, all the while chanting slowly the Eid takbeerat that heaps praise on our Creator, “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallahu, Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Wa lillahil Hamd.” (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, There is no one Worthy of Worship except Allah. Allah Is The Greatest, Allah is The Greatest, and praise be onto Him) This tradition lives on over 1400 years later when Muslims congregate for Eid prayers all around the world.
In “Eid Morning”, Native Deen presents their beautiful take on the Eid takbeers and in turn, helps a new generation of young Muslims easily learn the recommended words for the wonderful occasion.
About The Video
“Eid Morning” is a song released by Native Deen all the way back in 2007 as part of their popular “Not Afraid to Stand Alone” album. The song doesn’t deviate from tradition, featuring all the words of the Eid Takbeers, a practice started by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The visuals are of a beautiful animated meadow with the verses of the Takbeer appearing in Arabic. The group slowly chants the opening much like is done at Eid gatherings all around the world amongst congregants and attendees.
Abdul-Malik Ahmad then continues with the verses of “Allahu Akbar Kabeera, Wal hamdulilah Katheerah, wa subhanallahi wa bi hamdihi bukratan wa aseela” (Allah is the most greatest, and praise be to Allah in abundance, and glory be to Allah in the early morning and in the late afternoon).
The praises of Allah continue as butterflies float by and flowers bloom until the completion of the chant where peace and blessings are declared for Prophet Muhammad, his companions, his family, his wives, and descendants.
Final Verdict
“Eid Morning” presents the Eid Takbeerat in a very catchy way that makes it easy to learn the words to the Takbeerat. Traditionally, organizers would hand out sheets of the Eid Takbeers to attendees so they can join in and not get lost in the chanting.
Also, at Eid events, a microphone would be passed around for congregants to take turns saying the words. For those that were unfamiliar with all the words, getting the mic passed to them would be a dreadful experience. Knowing the words can help greatly.
Funnily enough, it was actually through this rendition by Native Deen that I learned all the words to the Eid Takbeerat by heart and for that I am very grateful.
“Eid Morning” by Native Deen has been a tradition of mine to play in the ca and put on repeat with my family as we drive to the venue for Eid Salat as I encourage my kids to join in the chant. I highly recommend doing the same as it is a very enjoyable version of the popular sunnah. Eid Mubarak!
