Finalist: Haniyah Aamir
Summary:
This video follows the life of an ordinary girl, Anabia. She lives a plain life in the city but is never quite happy. This video shows her progression to finding Allah silently, and for herself. Anabia knows that the world is full of pain and anguish for so many people, so she is comforted by her religion, which tells her there will be justice in the hereafter.
Synopsis:
“Till Death Do We Part” is a short spoken-word poem which explores the injustices of the world we live in. How is it possible that there could be a God when there is poverty, famine, disease and war? We understand during the finishing verses that the only way we can have ultimate justice is for there to be a final reckoning: what Muslims know as the day of judgment. In a way, this poem is an ontological argument for why the day of judgment must exist. A key artistic element is the choice of phrases such as: “in sickness and in health”, “something borrowed, something blue”, and the title itself: “till death do we part”. These are all phrasings taken directly from wedding-related vows. The context is different in the poem, of course as, as we use the same undertones of keeping a promise to emphasize the importance of the promise we made to Allah (Ahed-E-Alast).
