Who’s Next: “I Choose to Believe” by Ammar Charaf
“My name is Ammar Charaf. I’m an aspiring independent nasheed artist, 25, and a Chemistry Teacher, from Paramus, New Jersey. I grew up listening to a variety of Islamic singers including Native Deen, Dawud Wharnsby, Sami Yusuf, Mesut Kurtis, and more. I went on to learn some traditional arabic nasheeds and began performing Nasheed and reciting Quran all over the Tri-State Area. I recently started to also write and share my own songs at a few events. I play the def and darbuke depending on the song, but I hope to record in a variety of genres, if possible, inspiring hope and the Prophetic traditions wherever I go.
For the past few weeks I tried to create a new song that specifically compliments Islamic Relief, while at the same time remaining true to my style of music and my message as an artist. Alhamdulillah, I’m soooo happy this song finally came together, but I had not memorized it yet. I hope you can feel the tune, beat, rhythm and desired tempo. Lyrics and meaning behind the song are attached as well. Enjoy! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.”
